You can learn about Spanish speaking countries by making what I call country corners. These are fun and easy, and can be put together over several weeks, bit by bit.
Begin by making a country collage poster. If you are teaching a class, send a note home to parents and ask them to have their child bring in any pictures they find about that country.
Pictures can be found on-line, in travel magazines (my favorite source), newspapers, and in old calendars (another great source).
As you make your poster, add Spanish words to label some things, OR even write some sentences by the pictures to tell about them. If you are using Spanish for You!, you can write things using the vocabulary, verbs, and grammar concepts being learned.
After the poster is finished, hang it in a place where you can display items you make or find to help show your country.
Once you are done, maybe after several weeks, you will have something YOU created about a country and realize how much you have learned. AND you will have a sense about a people who speak the language you are learning.
Below are a few sample pictures. If my posters look worn, it is because they are. They have seen a lot of use!
