Here is a fun game that promotes speaking and vocabulary learning or review. It is something many of you may find familiar. It is called "Voy a la playa y traigo..." (I go to the beach, and I bring...)
The way this is played is you need a bag and several items (or flashcards) of vocabulary words you are using related to the beach (or you can play this game for going other places too - Voy a la escuela y traigo... = I go to school, and I bring..., Voy de viaje y traigo... = I go on a trip, and I bring..., Voy a _____, y traigo... etc.). Then:
Pass out the items to all your players, and give the bag to the first player. That person begins by saying, "Voy a la playa y traigo____. (filling in with his/her item name in Spanish) - Example: Voy a la playa y traigo la toalla (the towel), and places the item in the bag.
The next person gets the bag and says, "Voy a la playa y traigo la toalla, y ______. (filling in blank with his/her item in Spanish.), and placing it in the bag.
Continue going around until all the items are used. If you only have 2 or 3 players, just give each player several items and keep passing the bag between you adding one item at a time.
This gets more fun as the bag goes around and players have to remember all the items placed
Some pronunciation help: traigo (try-go), playa (ply-ah), escuela (eh-skweh-lah), viaje (bee-ah-hey).
One last helpful hint: Write the sentence on a board for all to see - "Voy a la playa y traigo..."
Give it a try. You will find it is a great way to promote speaking and help remember vocabulary words. Enjoy!
