I like to have my students write two person dialogs as a way to build their conversation skills. They work in pairs and come up with two characters. The students will write a conversation between the two characters using vocabulary, verbs, and grammar they have been learning.
Both students write the dialog on their own papers so that when they are done, they can be the characters and have the conversation.
It is fun to have pairs switch dialogs with other pairs too so they can have more conversations. Pairs can even edit each others' dialogs by correcting errors they spot.
A great post activity is to have the students continue as their characters and have a new conversation without writing any dialog.
Give it a try and enjoy!
PS - Sometimes, the week before I plan to have students write dialogs, we write one together as a class for practice.
