Today I met with the directors of a local homeschool co-op. They were looking for a Spanish curriculum for their grades 3-4 and 5-6 classes. I was so glad they contacted me because Spanish for You! is a perfect fit for them.
I first designed Spanish for You! while teaching classes in a homeschool co-op for grades 3-8. I still develop and use it this way today. (But over the years, I also made it a curriculum available for independent use at home.)
It is often difficult to find Spanish curriculums for teaching elementary and middle school level classes. There are many obstacles you can run into. My biggest obstacle was how to place inexperienced students at the beginning of a school year with experienced students of the same grade.
The reason this was so difficult is because most curriculums teach in levels. So, if you have students start in third grade in level 1, then the next year they need to move up a level and so on. Unfortunately, there is such a changeover of students coming and going with no standard across the board for elementary and middle school, that it is nearly impossible to smoothly move all students in one grade along together.
So, from that difficulty came the Spanish for You! design. Through fun themes, students learn a lot of useful everyday vocabulary, all about what verb conjugation is and how to use it, as well as many useful grammar concepts that they learn to pull together to skillfully communicate in Spanish. As they complete more themed packages they become more knowledgeable and skillful. A bit of a different approach, but it w
The approach used in Spanish for You! is a combination of a natural approach that mimics how a person's native language is learned and a traditional approach that systematically teaches specific concepts through direct instruction and guided practice.
By doing this, students begin to develop fluency and become prepared to excel in any high school curriculum.
